Command reference

Everything you can type. / runs a Nymchat command; ? asks Nymbot. An autocomplete list appears as soon as you type either.

Slash commands

/help prints this list inside the app, always current for the version you are running.

Channels

Command	Does
`/join #channel` · `/j`	Joins a channel, geohash or named. `/join #9q5`.
`/who` · `/w`	Lists the nyms active in this channel.
`/share`	Copies a shareable URL for this channel.
`/poll`	Opens the poll composer.

Conversations

Command	Does
`/pm nym`	Opens a private message. `/pm nym#a1b2` when a name is ambiguous.
`/invite @nym`	In a channel, invites someone to it; in a group chat, adds them.
`/leave`	Leaves the current conversation. In a group chat, removes you from it.
`/block nym` · `/block #channel`	Blocks a person or a channel.
`/unblock nym` · `/unblock #channel`	Unblocks one.

Group chats

`/group @a @b [name]`	Creates a private group.	Anyone
`/addmember @nym`	Adds a member.	Owner, or members when allowed
`/groupinfo`	Lists the members.	Anyone
`/kick @nym`	Removes a member.	Owner, moderators
`/ban @nym`	Removes and blocks their return.	Owner, moderators
`/unban @nym`	Lifts a ban.	Owner
`/addmod @nym`	Promotes to moderator.	Owner
`/removemod @nym`	Demotes a moderator.	Owner
`/transferowner @nym`	Hands the group over.	Owner

Everything else

Command	Does
`/help`	Shows all commands.
`/nick name`	Changes your nym.
`/me action`	An action message — `/me is compiling`.
`/brb message`	Sets an away message that auto-replies.
`/back`	Clears it.
`/zap nym`	Sends a Lightning zap to a profile.
`/slap nym`	Slaps them with a trout.
`/hug nym`	Gives them a warm hug.
`/clear`	Clears the current conversation from view.
`/quit`	Disconnects from Nymchat.

Nymbot commands

These work in any channel, and in the private Nymbot chat. ?help lists them in the app. Channel commands are free; the private chat is paid in credits.

AI and knowledge

Command	Does
`?ask question`	Asks the AI. `@Nymbot question` does the same.
`?define word`	Definition, part of speech and example usage.
`?translate text`	Translates, detecting the source language.
`?news`	Breaking news headlines.

Games and fun

Command	Does
`?trivia [category]`	general, history, science, crypto or nostr.
`?joke`	A fresh joke.
`?riddle`	A riddle — reply to answer.
`?wordplay [mode]`	wordle, anagram or scramble — reply to guess.
`?flip`	Flips a coin.
`?8ball question`	Magic 8-ball.
`?pick a b c`	Picks one at random.

Utility

`?math expression`	Calculates it.
`?units 10 km to mi`	Converts units.
`?time`	UTC time and the Unix timestamp.
`?btc`	The Bitcoin price.

Channel activity

Command	Does
`?who`	Who is active in this channel.
`?summarize`	Summarises the current discussion.
`?top`	Top channels by recent activity.
`?last [N]`	The last N messages across channels. Default 10, maximum 25.
`?seen nym`	Where and when a nym was last seen.

Credits and Pro — in the private Nymbot chat

Command	Does
`?help`	A free, local guide to the tiers, pricing and setup.
`?balance`	Your standard and Pro balances.
`?buy`	Buys credits over Lightning, with a Standard/Pro switch.
`?model [name\|off]`	Pins a Pro model, or returns to standard routing.
`?image description`	Generates a picture. `?image models` lists the generators, free.
`?speak text`	Returns a spoken voice clip, up to 800 characters.
`?git`	Connects a git repository so Pro replies can read it.
`?gift @nym`	Gifts credits.
`?transfer @nym`	Transfers your whole balance.

`?nostr`	A random Nostr protocol tip.
`?changelog [version]`	Release notes, pulled live from GitHub. Defaults to the latest release.
